Fiji Bitter Marist 7s Celebrates 50th with MPasifika Shield and Legends Match in Suva

The upcoming Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, marking its 50th anniversary, promises to be a monumental event in the world of rugby, featuring 120 teams in its grand finale of the Fiji Bitter 7s series next year. This historical celebration will be held from March 26-28, 2026, at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

The tournament will showcase a diverse array of competitors, comprising 64 men’s teams, 12 women’s teams, 32 under-21 teams, and 12 under-18 teams, illustrating the inclusive spirit of this prestigious event. A new highlight of the competition will be the introduction of the MPasifika Shield, which will see participating teams from across the Pacific compete for this coveted title.

In addition to the thrilling matches, the event will pay homage to the legacy of grassroots rugby by honoring former players who have significantly influenced the sport over the past 50 years with a special legends match. A capping ceremony will also recognize 50 noteworthy individuals—including players, officials, and administrators—who have made remarkable contributions to the tournament’s rich history.

Fans will not only witness exciting rugby action but will also be treated to a plethora of off-field activities designed to enhance their experience. This includes a builder experience zone, giveaways from Golden Roots Global Wings, opportunities to meet rugby legends, and engaging live entertainment, ensuring a festive atmosphere throughout the event.

Organizers emphasize that the 50th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s stands as a tribute to the collective passion and unity that has characterized the tournament for decades. They state, “The Fiji Bitter Marist 7s remains a cornerstone of Fiji’s rugby calendar, providing a platform for nurturing future national and international rugby stars.”

The theme of “The Builder” reflects the influence of Marcellin Champagnat, the founder of the Marist Brothers, and symbolizes the foundational values of grassroots rugby while celebrating Fiji’s achievements, including its two Olympic gold medals. As the community comes together to celebrate this landmark event, the hope is that it will not only honor the past but also inspire the future of rugby in Fiji and beyond.
