Fiji and the Solomon Islands are taking a significant step towards enhancing their collaboration in the justice sector through the launch of the Twinning Program. This initiative aims to boost regional cooperation and build capacity, symbolized by the traditional Chuppu ceremony held on November 12, 2025. The ceremony welcomed Fiji’s Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General, Siromi Turaga, by Clezy Rore, the Minister for Justice and Legal Affairs of the Solomon Islands.
The program follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) earlier this year, which lays the groundwork for mutual learning, professional development, and strengthening the institutions of both nations’ justice ministries. Minister Turaga highlighted the program’s role in facilitating knowledge exchange, saying, “Alone we go faster, but together we go further.”
Over the course of a week, the Fijian delegation plans to engage with senior officials from key legal sectors, including the Judiciary, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Law Reform Commission. A key aspect of this partnership will be the Justice Information Management System (JIMS), a digital project designed to enhance transparency and efficiency in justice delivery.
Minister Turaga expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by the Solomon Islands, reaffirming the shared Pacific values of unity, respect, and collaborative service that are the foundation of this partnership. He conveyed an optimistic vision for future cooperation, suggesting that this visit could pave the way for further mutual respect and collaboration between the two nations.
The initiative is backed by the Australia–Solomon Islands Partnership for Justice (ASIPJ) Program, highlighting a regional commitment to improving legal frameworks and promoting good governance. Both Fiji and the Solomon Islands aspire to strengthen their justice systems through such partnerships, which ultimately contribute to regional stability and security.
This collaboration mirrors a broader trend in the Pacific, where countries are embracing legal reforms to bolster governance structures.
