The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma is launching a transformative initiative that seeks to promote national unity through a 3-Year Prayer and Fasting Framework. This comprehensive plan aims to enhance spiritual renewal and social responsibility, addressing the growing social issues that impact families and communities across the nation.
The framework’s official pre-launch occurred in partnership with the Ministry of Policing and the Ministry of Communications. During this event, leaders from both the church and government underscored the significance of a collaborative approach to tackle the pressing challenges facing society. Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua, emphasized the need for unity, stating, “If we stand together, government, church, Vanua, communities, we create protection around our children, and protection around our future.”
Set to mobilize congregations across Fiji over the next three years, the framework will promote organized periods of prayer and fasting while also encouraging community engagement and moral accountability. Semisi Turagavou, President of the Methodist Church, pointed out that this initiative is inclusive, inviting participation from various sectors beyond the church.
Turagavou urged, “We must come together, and work together and move together as one people.” He extended an invitation to traditional leaders, non-governmental organizations, and other Christian denominations to join this collective effort. Church leaders believe that a unified front combining faith-based organizations, traditional authority, civil society, and government will be crucial in addressing the urgent social challenges facing Fiji.
