Family Ties Drive Kevin Brown’s WVU Commitment After Penn State Exit

Kevin Brown, a highly regarded 4-star offensive lineman from Harrisburg High, has announced his commitment to the West Virginia Mountaineers, returning to a program with strong family ties. The decision comes after he decommitted from Penn State earlier this week in the wake of head coach James Franklin’s firing.

Brown’s commitment to the Mountaineers is particularly meaningful as his father, Tim Brown, played for West Virginia from 1999 to 2004. Kevin shared his excitement about following in his father’s footsteps, stating, “It’s just super cool” to wear the same uniform as his dad.

In an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Brown explained that the coaching changes at Penn State, which have led to significant uncertainty regarding the coaching staff, played a pivotal role in his decision to switch allegiances. He stated, “When the head coach leaves, his whole coaching staff leaves,” describing the impact of Franklin’s firing on his confidence in the program.

After evaluating his options, including visits to Ohio State and West Virginia, Brown determined that West Virginia offered the best fit for his future. He emphasized the program’s strong facilities, top-notch strength and nutrition staff, and the coaching environment that will challenge him every day.

With the Mountaineers currently at 4-7 in the first year of head coach Rich Rodriguez’s second stint, Brown is optimistic about his contributions to the program. He expressed confidence in the team’s play designs and schemes, believing they align well with his playing style.

As he prepares to embark on this new chapter in Morgantown, Kevin Brown looks forward to the journey that lies ahead, both as an athlete and a member of a family legacy.
