GLEN Jackson expressed that selecting the match-day 23 for this week’s game was the most challenging decision he and his coaching staff have ever encountered. The head coach of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua announced the team that will compete against Moana Pasifika in the inaugural round of the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition, scheduled for this Saturday.
Jackson noted that while it was encouraging to have all players eager to play, informing those who would not be on the field was a difficult task. “It’s the hardest that I’ve ever had to do,” he told reporters during a press conference in Nadi. He emphasized the positive challenge of having a full roster but also acknowledged the pressure it puts on players who are selected.
In an exciting development, new signings Issak Fines-Leleiwasa, Virimi Vakatawa, Manasa Mataele, and co-captain Temo Mayanavanua will make their debuts in the upcoming match. Jackson reassured all his players that everyone would have the chance to take the field during the season, stating, “We’ve talked to all the players around their understanding of how this is an 18-game season; opportunities will come for everyone.”
This announcement comes after months of rigorous off-season and pre-season training, along with two competitive trial matches held in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, and Lautoka. As the team gears up for what promises to be an exhilarating and challenging season, Jackson is eager to see what his players can achieve in front of what the Drua proudly calls “the world’s best fans.”
The Fijian Drua will take on Moana Pasifika at Churchill Park, starting at 3:30 PM, marking an exciting beginning to their season.
