A 19-year-old man has been granted a $2 million bond following accusations of shooting a Columbus City Schools student outside the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Martin Luther King Branch. The incident occurred Thursday evening, prompting police to respond to reports of gunfire around 5 p.m. Officers arrived to find the student critically injured, and he was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, the student’s prognosis has improved, and he is expected to survive after undergoing surgery.
The victim, a student at East High School situated just across the street from the library, was targeted during a meeting with the suspected shooter, Marsean Bowles. According to court documents, their discussion regarding a disagreement escalated into violence, resulting in Bowles allegedly shooting the student in the stomach. Notably, the shooting was reportedly captured on cell phone video.
During the arraignment on Friday morning, Bowles faced a charge of felonious assault.
