In preparation for the T20 World Cup match scheduled on March 1 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory. Traffic arrangements will be enforced from 12 PM to 10 PM during the day-night match between South Africa and Zimbabwe, with warnings of potential congestion in the stadium area.
Key routes affected include JLN Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Asaf Ali Road, where heavy traffic is anticipated. Commuters should be particularly aware of slow traffic on the stretch from Rajghat to Delhi Gate and towards Kamla Market, as well as on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Asaf Ali Road.
Heavy vehicles will be prohibited from Daryaganj towards Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and from Guru Nanak Chowk towards Asaf Ali Road. Diversions may also be implemented if necessary, except for emergency service vehicles which will remain exempt from these restrictions.
Railway passengers traveling to and from New Delhi Railway Station are advised to consider potential delays at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and ITO Chowk and to begin their journeys early. The police encourage the use of alternate routes to avoid last-minute congestion.
Spectators will enter the stadium through specific gates based on their ticket locations. Those holding tickets for Gates 1 to 8 should approach via Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, while Gates 10 to 15 will be accessed through JLN Marg near Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal. A free parking facility will be available at Mata Sundari Road, Rajghat Power House Road, and Velodrome Road, accompanied by a shuttle service to the stadium.
Designated parking is available for vehicles with valid labels, including locations such as JP Park and Vikram Nagar Parking. Meanwhile, two-wheelers can park near the JJB/Prayas office. Vehicles without valid parking permits will be prohibited from entering the vicinity and may face towing measures.
For app-based taxi services, pick-and-drop points are established near Gate No. 2 at Maulana Azad Medical College, BSZ Marg, and Rajghat Chowk. The Delhi Traffic Police urges all motorists to exercise patience, adhere to traffic rules, and follow instructions from on-duty personnel. Updated traffic information can be accessed via the traffic police’s official website or social media channels, or through their helpline at 1095 or 011-25844444.
This proactive traffic management plan demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to ensuring a smooth experience for everyone attending the much-anticipated match, promoting both safety and enjoyment for cricket fans.
