The Chicago Bears are actively seeking to fill their offensive coordinator position after the recent departure of Declan Doyle, who has been appointed as the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, taking on play-calling responsibilities. The search has already hit a snag, as one potential candidate has turned down the opportunity.
According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, the Bears reached out to Troy Walters, the wide receivers coach for the Cincinnati Bengals, for an interview regarding their offensive coordinator role. However, Walters chose to stay in Cincinnati, opting to continue working alongside quarterback Joe Burrow. His decision underscores the strong attraction of working with a talented young quarterback, but it also leaves the Bears in search of other candidates.
Fortunately for Chicago, head coach Ben Johnson, who oversees the offensive strategies, ensures that there will not be significant disruption within the team’s offensive structure. Johnson knows the value of having the right coaching staff in place, especially when it comes to developing the Bears’ promising quarterback Caleb Williams and refining their offensive game plan.
The Bears are eyeing other candidates for the opening, including Connor Senger, the passing game coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals. Additionally, there are internal options that Johnson may consider, such as quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett, wide receivers coach and assistant head coach Antwaan Randle-El, and passing game coordinator Press Taylor.
As the Bears navigate their search, the continuity in their offensive approach under Johnson’s leadership provides a stabilizing factor as they aim to bring in the right talent to enhance their offensive capabilities. The focus remains on creating a strong foundation and maximizing the potential of their roster moving forward.
