INDIANAPOLIS — During a recent interview at the scouting combine, Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck took the opportunity to address some misconceptions regarding his journey over the past 15 months leading up to the April NFL draft.
Beck clarified that his transfer from Georgia to Miami was not about rekindling a love for the game, but rather about recovering from an injury. “I don’t think it was a falling-in-love again,” Beck stated. “I always loved football… it was more about coming back from an injury and having the opportunity to play football again.” The young quarterback suffered an ulnar collateral ligament injury to his throwing elbow during the 2024 SEC Championship Game, leading to Gunner Stockton taking over the starting role at Georgia.
Initially, Beck planned to declare for the 2025 draft as he recuperated from surgery. However, he opted to continue his college football journey by transferring to Miami. He emphasized that there was “no bad blood” with Georgia; rather, it was simply the right time for a fresh start once Georgia shifted focus to Stockton.
Beck’s resilience and recovery from his injury stand out as a source of pride for him. He was able to contribute significantly during his time at Miami, which culminated in a national championship appearance where they narrowly lost to Indiana. Throughout the season, Beck displayed impressive statistics, completing 72.4% of his passes for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
As the NFL draft approaches, the Miami Dolphins appear to have an interest in securing a quarterback, potentially in the middle rounds where Beck is projected to be selected. Beck mentioned his meeting with the Dolphins in Indianapolis, expressing optimism about the conversation. “I thought it went really well,” he said, highlighting his desire to connect with teams on a personal level during the interview process.
Beck could also attract attention from the Cleveland Browns, particularly under the guidance of their new head coach Todd Monken, who previously worked with him at Georgia. The upcoming draft is expected to feature Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza as the likely top pick, followed by Alabama’s Ty Simpson as the second quarterback off the board. Following them, Beck is in a group with notable players such as LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier and Penn State’s Drew Allar.
In a further development, the NFL announced that the salary cap for the 2026 season will stand at $301.2 million per team, a significant increase. As Miami prepares for the upcoming season, they are navigating roster changes, including recent cuts to several players. The Dolphins are also working on a resolution regarding quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, which may involve financial strategies to remain under the new salary cap.
The path ahead is filled with potential for Beck and the Dolphins as they look toward their future in the league, highlighting the ongoing evolution within the team and the prospects surrounding the upcoming draft.
