BYU Defeats UCF in Season Finale; Frost Eyes Bright Future After 5-7 Finish

In a challenging finale to the season, the UCF Knights concluded their campaign with a 5-7 record after a 41-21 loss to BYU at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday. Despite starting the game strong with a 14-0 lead, the Knights were unable to maintain their advantage, allowing the Cougars to score 31 unanswered points.

Head coach Scott Frost reflected positively on the team’s effort despite the disappointing result. He praised BYU and head coach Kalani Sitake, acknowledging the skill and execution displayed by their players. “Their quarterback (Bear Bachmeier) made some great throws on third and fourth down,” Frost noted, commenting on BYU’s ability to capitalize on crucial moments.

Bachmeier turned in an impressive performance, completing 21 of 25 passes for 289 yards and a touchdown. LJ Martin stood out with three rushing touchdowns, while Parker Kingston contributed significantly to the offense with 181 all-purpose yards.

Frost had fond recollections of his time spent in Provo during the early 1990s while being recruited, expressing admiration for the environment and the values upheld by Sitake. “He’s just a guy that’s real,” said Frost, emphasizing his respect for Sitake’s integrity and success, particularly noting his achievement in leading BYU to the Big 12 championship game.

Although the Knights will not be participating in a bowl game this year, Frost sees potential for growth within the program. After a tumultuous season marked by new players and unforeseen challenges, he is hopeful about the future. Drawing on his success from his previous tenure with the team, where he led them to a 13-0 record in 2017, he is optimistic about revitalizing the program.

Frost expressed pride in his team’s resilience and dedication, especially towards the senior players. “I hope they’re the springboard and building blocks of a program that’s going to only get better and hopefully do some good things down the road,” he concluded, signaling a resolve to strengthen and elevate the Knights in the seasons to come.
