Hundreds of golden retrievers gathered in a Buenos Aires park on Monday in a spirited attempt to set the world record for the largest assembly of the beloved breed. The event, whimsically dubbed the “Golden Wave,” originated on social media and quickly evolved into a large-scale meetup at the Bosques de Palermo park, a popular recreational area in Argentina’s capital.
Dogs of all ages participated, from lively puppies frolicking in the mud to older pets adorned in Santa hats and fairy costumes. Owners enjoyed the occasion, sipping yerba mate, a traditional Argentine beverage, while capturing moments on camera.
Fausto Duperre, the event’s organizer, expressed pride in what he described as a historic gathering. “A gathering of this size has never been held before, and I believe breaking Vancouver’s record of 1,685 golden retrievers will be historic,” he stated, beaming with excitement. Duperre estimated that at least 2,000 golden retrievers were present, suggesting that they had certainly surpassed the previous record.
To ensure the authenticity of the event, ten officials were tasked with verifying attendance. Final attendance figures will be confirmed in due course. Duperre was enthusiastic about the outcome, stating, “Definitely, at first glance we’ll surpass Vancouver.”
