COLUMBIA, S.C. – As winter weather sets in across the Midlands, schools are actively making decisions regarding closures and schedule changes. WIS First Alert Weather Days have been declared for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, prompting various districts to adjust their plans accordingly.
On Monday, February 2, several institutions will be fully closed, including Holly Hill Academy and the Fairfield County School District, as well as Thomas Sumter Academy. E-learning will be implemented by various districts, such as Richland County School District One, Richland County School District Two, and multiple Lexington and Kershaw County schools, allowing students to continue their education remotely.
Additionally, many weekend activities have been canceled due to the weather forecast. The Kershaw County School District has suspended all events scheduled for this weekend, including the KCSD Teacher Career Fair, which has been postponed to February 21, 2026. Similarly, Richland School District One and Fairfield County School District have canceled all activities from Saturday through Monday. The University of South Carolina-Columbia will also transition in-person classes and workshops to online formats for the weekend.
Newberry County School District has announced the cancellation of all activities from Friday through Sunday, with additional details regarding Monday’s operations expected to be shared on Sunday.
