Fiji’s healthcare logistics system has received a significant upgrade following a generous donation of $143,000 FJD from the Australia Fiji Health Program, facilitated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). This donation, presented to the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services (FPBS), includes essential equipment such as a forklift, laptops, trolleys, and 14,000 saline intravenous solutions, all aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and addressing critical medical needs.
Dr. Luisa Cikamatana, Chief Medical Advisor at the Ministry of Health, highlighted the importance of these items as practical solutions that will bolster the resilience of the supply chain. She noted that the forklift will streamline warehouse operations, while the trolleys will facilitate safer and more efficient order fulfillment. Additionally, the laptops are expected to support the digitization of procurement systems, paving the way for a more modern approach to healthcare logistics.
The introduction of saline solutions comes at a crucial time, helping to alleviate a significant clinical shortage and directly impacting patient care. Dr. Cikamatana expressed gratitude for the partnership, emphasizing that this support not only builds on past progress but also lays the groundwork for a digitally-enabled future in healthcare.
Dr. Frances Bingwor, DFAT Senior Program Manager for Health, also spoke at the handover, noting that this donation will ensure the consistent availability of essential medical supplies to those in need. She emphasized that this collaboration represents a mutual dedication to strengthening Fiji’s healthcare system through innovative and practical support.
This initiative signifies a positive step toward enhancing healthcare services in Fiji, fostering a more robust system that can better meet the needs of its population.
