Alleged Custody Assault Sparks Twist in Suva Meth Case

A Chinese national, Yu Yuan Feng, has made allegations of assault while in custody at a remand center, as addressed in the Suva Magistrates Court. The details of the alleged incident remain vague at this time. Feng’s lawyer, Shirley Tivao, informed the court that a comprehensive account regarding the assault would be submitted once all relevant information becomes available.

Feng, alongside two other individuals, Dai Ming Hui and Zhou Lan, faces charges related to the possession of 39.5 grams of methamphetamine. Additionally, both Feng and Zhou are implicated in further charges related to money laundering.

The defense team has made a motion for the return of mobile phones that were confiscated during police operations tied to the case. They emphasized their intent to formally contest the ongoing restriction of access to these devices.

The court has instructed the defense to provide written submissions addressing both the alleged assault and issues surrounding the mobile phones. The next hearing is scheduled for December 18, providing an opportunity for further developments in this case. This situation highlights the ongoing legal proceedings and challenges faced by individuals caught in serious allegations, underscoring the complexities of justice and defense within the legal system.
