Akor Adams has dedicated his remarkable goal against Mozambique in the AFCON 2025 round of 16 to his mother, who unfortunately fell ill before the match. The Nigerian striker from Kogi showcased his talent by scoring the fourth goal in Nigeria’s dominating 4-0 victory over the Mambas at the Fes Stadium. In addition to his goal, Adams also contributed two assists during the match.

This marks Adams’ third international goal for Nigeria and his first-ever strike in the Africa Cup of Nations, which he is experiencing in his debut tournament. After the match, the 22-year-old expressed his gratitude to God for achieving this milestone while honoring his mother, who had been hospitalized in Morocco but is now recovering well.

“First, glory to God for the privilege to have my first AFCON goal like all of you have been waiting for,” Adams stated. “But the goal is dedicated to my mum; she is supposed to be here but she is in a hospital right now. She was admitted this morning, but she’s much better now.”

Adams, who had flown his parents to Morocco to support him during the tournament, also addressed recent concerns regarding team dynamics after a brief altercation on the field between teammates Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman. He reassured fans, stating, “I am happy for the team, Victor had a fantastic game, Lookman had a fantastic game, we came out with the victory and we are happy.”

Having participated in all four of Nigeria’s matches in AFCON 2025, Adams has proven to be a crucial player, with two assists and now three goals under his belt. His performance not only highlights his personal achievements but also represents hope for Nigeria as they continue their quest for glory in the tournament.
