YouTube has unveiled a fresh redesign for its watch screen on television platforms, aiming to enhance user navigation and overall viewing experience. The new look includes the relocation of the video title and several controls, along with the introduction of a “Description” button that grants viewers easy access to creator information and other features related to the video.
The update is already visible on streaming devices like Nvidia Shield Pro and various smart TVs, including those powered by the Phillips TV OS. Users report that the redesign significantly improves the ease of locating specific video features and controls. However, it appears that the rollout is still ongoing, as some users, such as those using Apple TV, have yet to see the changes implemented.
With the new interface, video titles are now positioned in the top left corner of the screen, replacing their previous location above the video scrubber at the bottom. The functionality to click on the title for comments and related information has been removed, and users can now access these features exclusively through the new “Description” button. Additionally, channel thumbnails and the subscribe option have been split into two distinct buttons, allowing channels to be accessed directly through the creator’s thumbnail.
The control organization has also been revamped, creating distinct groups under the video scrubber for better usability. On the left, users will find Channel, Description, and Subscribe controls, while the center houses the Previous, Play/Pause, and Next buttons. The right side features Like, Dislike, Comment, Save, Closed Captions, and Settings, now organized into two groups for clarity. YouTube mentions that the Subscribe button will remain visible for subscribers, alerting them to pay-gated content or new livestreams. Additionally, a “Multiview” control for live sports content has been introduced, along with a new “Display Mode” control exclusive to YouTube Music and Premium subscribers.
This update aligns with YouTube’s continuous efforts to improve the user experience across its platforms, ensuring that viewers can easily access the content they enjoy.
