CHARLESTON, S.C. — In anticipation of snow and winter weather this weekend, various school districts, businesses, and government services across the Lowcountry are implementing schedule changes to ensure safety.

Starting Monday, multiple school districts will transition to eLearning days. The Charleston County School District will close all schools and district offices, with updates expected regarding Tuesday’s operations. Berkeley, Colleton, and Dorchester County School Districts will also shift to eLearning for students and close their offices. Similarly, the Georgetown County School District will initiate an eLearning day, with a promise of further updates on the following day’s plans.

Notably, some private schools such as Colleton Preparatory Academy and Holly Hill Academy will also close their doors on Monday, while others like Learn4Life High School will conduct eLearning.

For colleges, Charleston Southern University and the College of Charleston will hold online classes, though some institutions will delay opening until noon. For instance, South Carolina State University will begin its operations at noon, while Trident Technical College will remain open on a normal schedule.

In terms of governmental services, many county offices, including those in Beaufort and Georgetown, will remain closed or have altered schedules. For example, the Georgetown County taxpayers have until Tuesday to meet their real property tax deadlines due to the anticipated closures.

Local businesses and attractions are also adjusting their hours. The South Carolina Aquarium plans to open at noon, while Cypress Gardens will begin operations at 10 a.m. on Monday.

These proactive measures highlight the regions’ commitment to the safety and well-being of students, staff, and community members in the face of winter weather challenges. As the situation develops, updates will be provided to the public to ensure everyone is informed and equipped to handle the anticipated conditions safely.
