As winter weather shifts from snow to sleet and freezing rain in various parts of Connecticut this afternoon, travel on state roads has become hazardous. The Connecticut Department of Transportation has reported multiple accidents as conditions deteriorate.

Notably, on Interstate 691 in Meriden, a tractor-trailer has jackknifed on the eastbound side between Exits 5 and 3, leading to the closure of the left lane. Meanwhile, a separate single-vehicle crash has also resulted in lane closures on the westbound side.

In Middletown, a two-vehicle collision on I-91 North between Exits 20 and 21 has prompted the closure of both the left and center lanes, further complicating traffic flow.

Additionally, Waterbury is facing significant disruptions on I-84 East, where a multi-vehicle accident has closed lanes between Exits 25 and 25A. Another crash has occurred on I-84 East in Southington near Exit 30, contributing to the congestion.

Cromwell is not exempt from the adverse conditions either, with a two-vehicle accident causing the right lane of Route 9 North to close. A lane on the southbound side of Route 9 South is also impacted by another crash.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution and stay informed about current road conditions as more winter weather is anticipated. The challenges posed by these weather events emphasize the importance of safe driving practices during winter months.
