Genoa, Nev. — A winter weather advisory has been issued starting at 10 p.m. today, affecting the entire Sierra Nevada region, from Bieber to Bishop, including Stateline, Glenbrook, and Markleeville. Forecasters anticipate snow accumulation of 10-18 inches at elevations above 7,000 feet, while the Tahoe Basin is expected to receive 3-8 inches of snow.

As this weather front approaches overnight, Tuesday morning’s commute through the mountains may be challenging due to the snowfall. On Wednesday, light snow may reach the Valley, but little to no accumulation is expected.

In a separate local matter, a competency hearing is set for accused wrong-way fatal DUI driver Stephen Michael Pawlowski. The proceedings, which had been stayed since July, relate to a tragic incident on March 20 that resulted in the death of 24-year-old Carson City resident Brian A. Vasquez-Gonzalez in Glenbrook.

Meanwhile, in sports news, the Seattle Seahawks triumphed over the New England Patriots with a score of 29-13 on Sunday. This game outcome is anticipated to have an impact on Nevada sports books, with the Seahawks covering the spread, yet staying just shy of the over-under total of 45.5 points.

Today’s forecast predicts mostly cloudy skies with rain expected to develop around 7 p.m. A few flurries may occur before midnight as snow levels rise to 5,400 feet. The high temperature is projected to reach 50 degrees, a notable drop from Sunday’s warmer high of 66 degrees, accompanied by a light north breeze later in the afternoon.

This winter weather may bring much-needed moisture to the region, potentially benefiting local water supplies as the area gears up for the colder months ahead.
