SAN ANTONIO – In preparation for an anticipated winter storm this weekend, numerous school districts across the San Antonio area have announced closures and rescheduling of events. Officials are prioritizing the safety of students and staff amid concerns of icy roads and freezing temperatures.
East Central Independent School District (ISD) has decided to close all schools and district offices on Monday, January 26, with an instructional day set to be made up on April 6. Similarly, Pearsall ISD has opted for a closure on Monday to ensure the safety of families and staff, while Southwest ISD has also announced the cancellation of classes with the expectation of returning to normal operations on Tuesday.
Devine ISD, Somerset ISD, Lytle ISD, and Natalia ISD are among other districts that will be closed due to expected hazardous conditions. Each district plans to provide updates through their websites and social media channels, keeping parents informed about any changes and returning schedules.
Medina Valley ISD and Pre-K 4 SA have also confirmed closures for Monday, joining a growing list of districts including San Antonio ISD, Judson ISD, North East ISD, and Northside ISD, all prioritizing safety over scheduling. Edgewood ISD and South San Antonio ISD have made similar announcements, indicating closures through the same day.
Outside of San Antonio, Eagle Pass ISD and Cotulla ISD have also canceled classes. Harlandale ISD and Poth ISD have announced closures, with Poth ISD advising parents that a decision regarding Tuesday will be communicated by Monday evening.
Many private schools and specialized programs are following suit, including San Antonio Academy and Jubilee Academies, both opting to close on Monday. Kerrville ISD has adjusted its activities scheduled for the weekend in anticipation of the storm, while Bandera ISD has announced cancellations for specific events.
The North East ISD is currently monitoring the weather closely and still plans to hold classes on Monday unless conditions change significantly.
