A tragic incident unfolded on Monday evening in Piscataway, New Jersey, where police fatally shot a man wielding a knife at a residence on River Road. The event occurred around 5:30 p.m. after officers responded to a 911 call reporting a person inside the home was armed.

Upon arrival, police confronted the man, who was subsequently shot. Following the shooting, authorities discovered three additional bodies within the residence, prompting an investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. As of Monday night, the identities of the deceased were not released.

The Piscataway Township Police Department characterized the event as a homicide but reassured the community that it appeared to be an isolated incident. They emphasized there was no ongoing threat to the public and thanked community members for their cooperation during this difficult time.

Peter Andreyev, President of the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association, described the scene as a “horrific crime” and confirmed that all officers involved are being evaluated for their well-being.

Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots shortly after the police arrived, and some officers were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, but fortunately, they are expected to recover fully. The area surrounding the home remains cordoned off as police continue their investigation into this unsettling event.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement and the community concerning violent crimes, and the investigation will provide further clarity as information becomes available.
