Schools in the Western Division have been ordered to remain closed indefinitely due to severe flooding and hazardous road conditions. Aseri Radrodro, the Minister for Education, made this announcement in collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Management Office and other relevant agencies following reports from Divisional Education Officers.

In contrast, educational institutions in the Northern, Eastern, and Central Divisions will continue their regular operations. However, parents and guardians are reminded that the decision to send children to school ultimately rests with them, particularly in areas that are susceptible to flooding where roads and transport routes may still be unsafe.

Parents are strongly urged to prevent their children from attempting to cross flooded areas, including roads, creeks, or rivers. Vigilance is crucial, and families are advised to keep a close watch on official weather updates and advisories.

School leaders have been directed to maintain communication with their Management Committees and District Education Offices, ensuring they assess school grounds and facilities before resuming normal activities. The Ministry of Education underscores that the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and families is its highest priority. Further updates will be shared as necessary, highlighting the commitment to providing a safe learning environment for all students. This proactive approach reflects the dedication to safeguarding the community during adverse weather conditions.
