The government has initiated the distribution of non-food supplies to evacuation centers throughout the Western Division, with an aim to provide further assistance to families who have chosen to remain in their homes. Currently, there are 27 active evacuation centers in this region as authorities closely monitor the situation following recent weather-related disruptions.

Divisional Planning Officer for the West, Elimi Rokoduru, confirmed this information, highlighting that while some centers have been closed, others are still active, accommodating a total of 701 evacuees. The latest reports indicate that Nadi has the highest concentration of active centers, followed by Ba, Lautoka, and Sigatoka.

Mr. Rokoduru noted the most severely affected area in Sigatoka is Malele, which is among those prioritized for structured support. He emphasized the importance of evacuees being in the official centers to facilitate the collection of their needs and to ensure proper assistance.

While less than five schools are currently being used as evacuation centers, officials are optimistic about clearing these facilities in the near future. Mr. Rokoduru has asked for patience from the community as teams work diligently to address the needs of those affected by the recent weather conditions.

This proactive response by the government reflects the commitment to supporting displaced residents and highlights the ongoing efforts to provide relief in the wake of challenging circumstances.
