A devastating house fire in west San Antonio has led to the untimely deaths of a beloved married couple, Juan and Guillermina Hinojosa. The tragic incident occurred late Monday night, with flames reported just before 11 p.m. in the 400 block of South San Dario.

Cindy, the daughter of Guillermina, confirmed the heartbreaking news, sharing that both parents were taken to the hospital but sadly did not survive. In the wake of this tragedy, the family is left to grapple with their profound loss, searching through the remnants of their loved ones’ life together.

Cindy recounted fond memories, holding a cherished statue of Jesus that her mother had once showcased atop an altar, which served as a testament to the family’s deep faith. “She taught us to be good in our faith and spread our faith without turning back,” she said, highlighting the values instilled by her mother. Guillermina was not only a devoted family member but also a vibrant presence in her church community, leaving behind daughters and grandchildren who will strive to continue her legacy.

Reflecting on the shock and sorrow enveloping the family, Cindy expressed the difficulty of processing their loss, especially after recently gathering for Christmas. “It’s a little devastating. We’re just in shock,” she shared.

According to officials, the fire quickly escalated, trapping Guillermina in a closet after being separated from her husband during the emergency. Fire crews faced significant challenges due to burglar bars and a metal roof, which complicated rescue efforts. While Juan was removed from the back of the house, Guillermina was found on the side.

Investigators have determined that the fire originated near a wood-burning stove, which the couple frequently used to keep their home warm. “They loved having heaters in their home, firewood heaters,” Cindy remarked, indicating that this might have been a contributing factor to the tragic event.

As the Hinojosa family navigates this painful chapter, they request privacy and prayers from their community, focusing on healing from this unimaginable loss. The outpouring of support could offer hope and strength as they remember the love and faith that defined the lives of Juan and Guillermina Hinojosa.
