Weightlifting Fiji is experiencing an influx of youthful talent as head coach Henry Elder has reported that several newcomers have already displayed encouraging potential during training sessions. This upsurge in young athletes is not only exciting for the federation but also bodes well for the sport’s future in Fiji.

Elder noted that the new recruits have been making impressive strides, prompting him to express optimism that supporters might soon see the emergence of future stars similar to Taniela Rainibogi. The athletes, who are part of Elder’s development squad, range in age and include even primary school children, highlighting the federation’s dedication to fostering talent from the grassroots level.

“You can expect to see some very exciting athletes emerge from this young squad in the coming years. Even though they are very young and new to the sport, they have shown strong performances in training. I’m excited to see what 2026 holds for us and these young lifters,” Elder stated.

Recently, Weightlifting Fiji concluded its final training session of the year at the Rabuka Gym in Suva and is set to resume preparations for the 2026 season on Friday. This commitment to developing athletes from a young age represents a hopeful and transformative moment for the future of weightlifting in the country. As these young talents continue to train and develop, they could potentially put Fiji on the map in international weightlifting competitions.
