Health workers in the Northern Division have welcomed a significant boost to their operational capabilities with the recent delivery of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) supplies to medical facilities in Bua and Macuata. Coordinated by the Health Ministry’s headquarters, this initiative includes essential items such as wheelie bins, pedal bins, and specialized waste-segregation containers.
The new supplies are intended to enhance the management of medical waste within clinics and health centers, thus promoting a safer environment for healthcare staff, patients, and the surrounding communities. The Assistant Minister for Health, Penioni Ravunawa, who is currently touring the Northern Division, was on hand to oversee the handover and engage with the WASH team.
Ravunawa stressed the critical importance of improving sanitation in frontline healthcare facilities as a means to prevent contamination and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks. He highlighted that many subdivisions have already received training to implement effective healthcare waste management strategies, with several initiatives having been officially launched earlier this year.
The introduction of these new supplies is set to create a safer working environment for healthcare personnel and contribute to cleaner, healthier living conditions for the communities relying on these essential services. This development marks a hopeful advancement in strengthening public health infrastructure in the region, indicating a commitment toward better health outcomes for all.
