The Wardens Gold men’s team is gearing up for the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s, focusing on performing their best in honor of their fellow officers back home covering their shifts. As the second leg of the Fiji Bitter 7s series kicks off today, Coach Viliame Veikoso emphasized the team’s determination to win, reflecting on their commitment to those supporting them while they compete.

Veikoso stated, “We are coming over and taking part with the aim of winning. We know that in coming over for this, we are thinking of our fellow officers who are working during this time and covering our shifts so that we could come over.” He reinforced the attitude that this tournament is not just a break for the team, but an opportunity to excel and bring home a victory.

The team is a blend of returning players from last year along with several new selections for this season, showcasing a balanced roster. Veikoso extended his gratitude to the Fiji Corrections Service, family members, colleagues, and loved ones for their unwavering support that made this journey possible.

Traveling aboard the Goundar Shipping Limited vessel MV Lady Daya, the team departed from Suva on Tuesday night and arrived in Taveuni yesterday. Other competitive teams to watch in the Wairiki 7s include Devo Babas, Yamacia, Army Green, Village Boys, and Y-IS Kava Vacalea. Notably, the Village Boys won the first leg of the series, narrowly defeating Kava Vacalea 15-12 at the Yalovata 7s two weeks ago.

The tournament runs from today through Saturday, promising thrilling matches as teams compete for glory in what is shaping up to be an exciting event in the Fiji Bitter 7s series.
