Village Boys Clinch Fiji 7s Title as Georgia-bound Player Shines

Young athletes showcased their potential at the 2025 Fiji Bitter Yalovata Lomaiviti 7s tournament held at Nasau Park in Levuka over the weekend. This thrilling two-day event highlighted the talents of grassroots rugby, featuring competitive matches that culminated in exciting finishes.

The Village Boys team made an impressive mark by claiming the tournament championship with a narrow 15-12 win against Kava Vacalea in the final. Team captain Beniamino Ratu expressed heartfelt appreciation for his teammates’ dedication and hard work throughout the tournament. Ratu emphasized the importance of strategic teamwork, which played a crucial role in their victory.

“First of all, I want to thank the almighty for being part of our lives throughout our journey,” Ratu noted. “I told the boys from the quarter-finals to the final that we must work smart on the field and together—that’s the way to win.”

In addition to their championship success, Ratu celebrated the achievements of one of the players, Josefa, who is set to embark on a professional rugby career in Georgia. “We congratulate Josefa on securing a rugby contract and wish him all the best on his journey ahead,” he said.

Reflecting on the team’s future, Ratu pointed out the challenges they face, particularly in securing sponsorships to facilitate their development. “We are seeking sponsors to support our young team, the Village Boys,” he urged.

Gratitude was a consistent theme in Ratu’s message, as he thanked the players, their families, supporters, and fans for their continuous encouragement from the beginning of their journey.

In other tournament results, Axellerate Aflame Brothers triumphed in the U21 category, defeating Bureta 17-12, while Sinukakala claimed the women’s title with a strong 20-5 victory over Tagimoucia Ranadi. The tournament not only celebrated emerging talent but also underscored the vibrant rugby culture in Fiji, offering hope for the future of the sport.
