Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman is set to make his much-anticipated return to the ice against the Boston Bruins during the NHL Stadium Series this Sunday, following his recovery from elbow surgery. Lightning coach Jon Cooper confirmed Hedman’s return on Saturday, marking a significant boost for the team as they prepare to face off against a formidable opponent.

Hedman has been sidelined since December 9 due to his elbow surgery, and prior to that, he had spent nearly a month on injured reserve earlier in the season due to a different injury. Despite his limited appearances, Hedman had already amassed 12 assists in 18 games this season, showcasing his integral role within the team.

The captain of the Lightning sustained his recent injury during a game against the New Jersey Devils, raising concerns about his availability not only for the rest of the NHL season but also for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan in 2026. Fortunately, the club has now confirmed his participation in Sunday’s game, generating optimism among fans and teammates alike.

Jon Cooper expressed confidence in Hedman’s readiness, stating, “Purposely didn’t speak with him beforehand, but I think you saw what happened at the end of practice. So barring him coming in saying no, which I think is extremely doubtful, he’ll most likely be in tomorrow.”

In addition to his return to the Lightning, Hedman has earned a spot on Team Sweden for the Olympics, a testament to his skill and leadership. He previously led Sweden to a gold medal at the IIHF World Championships in 2017 and has a rich history representing his country in various international competitions.

Hedman is also celebrated for his remarkable achievement as he recently became the first defenseman in Lightning history to play 1,000 NHL games. He accomplished this milestone during a 4-0 victory over the Dallas Stars on December 4, 2023, joining the ranks of franchise legends Vincent Lecavalier and Steven Stamkos.

Hedman’s return not only strengthens the Lightning’s defense but also serves as an inspiration to the entire team as they strive for success in the remainder of the season. With his veteran presence back on the ice, the Lightning are hopeful for a strong performance against the Bruins.
