The VESIDA One volleyball team demonstrated their skill and determination in the opening match of the Tribal Risk Nasinu Grassroots Volleyball tournament, achieving a notable victory against Easternville with a score of 25-20. This match showcased VESIDA’s commanding performance throughout the game.

The tournament is part of a wider initiative spearheaded by the Nasinu Volleyball Association in partnership with the Fiji Sports Council. The aim is to kick off a month-long Grassroots Development Program designed to give local clubs access to top-notch facilities and opportunities for competitive play, thereby nurturing volleyball talent in the area.

Team captain Watisoni Bukalidi shared the team’s readiness to compete, expressing confidence in their preparation and commitment to securing victory in the tournament. He acknowledged the challenge posed by Easternville, especially in the intense third set, but highlighted his team’s resilience and focus. “We had been preparing well for this competition. The boys know what is at stake; we are aiming to win this competition,” Bukalidi asserted.

He also recognized the talents exhibited by their opponents and expressed appreciation to the Nasinu Volleyball Association for facilitating the Grassroots competition. Bukalidi emphasized the value of sports in providing positive outlets for youth in the face of societal challenges. He noted that initiatives like the Grassroots Development Program are pivotal in developing talent and guiding young people towards constructive endeavors. Such programs not only cultivate athletic skills but also help build stronger communities through sports, fostering unity and personal growth among participants.

In this spirit, the tournament stands as a beacon of hope for regional volleyball, promising to uplift both athletes and the community as they engage in healthy competition and personal development.
