In a meaningful lead-up to the bowl game, the Golden Eagles dedicated Saturday to community service in the New Orleans area, embodying the spirit of giving before the holiday season. Under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Blake Anderson, the team divided into three groups for their day of service. One group volunteered at Second Harvest, preparing food boxes for families in need, while another group distributed toys at the Heroes of New Orleans. The third group provided support to The ARC of Greater New Orleans, assisting individuals with disabilities and their families.
Following their service activities, the Golden Eagles returned to their downtown hotel for afternoon meetings before heading to Metairie for a rigorous two-hour workout at the indoor practice facility of the New Orleans Saints. The team continued its preparation with another practice session on Sunday and a walkthrough at the Superdome on Monday, ensuring they are thoroughly ready for the upcoming challenge.
USM concluded the regular season with a solid overall record of 7-5, including a 5-3 record in conference play. Highlights of their season included a notable 38-20 victory over Jackson State University, juxtaposed with a tougher matchup that resulted in a 17-34 loss to Mississippi State University.
