South Florida is gearing up for an active offseason in the NCAA Transfer Portal following the announcement that Alex Golesh has accepted the head coaching position at Auburn. One of the most notable departures for the Bulls is quarterback Byrum Brown, who has declared his intent to enter the portal.

Having spent the past four years at the University of South Florida, where he utilized a redshirt year, Brown has one season of eligibility remaining. His time with the Bulls has been impressive; he has participated in 35 games, demonstrating his prowess as one of the nation’s more productive quarterbacks. Over his career, Brown has achieved a completion rate of 64.8% while averaging 219.7 passing yards per game. He has thrown for 61 touchdowns, recorded 19 interceptions, and added 31 rushing touchdowns to his tally, culminating in a total of 284.4 yards per game and 92 total touchdowns.

Brown’s standout seasons were particularly evident in 2023 and 2025 when he averaged a 65.5% completion rate and 258.2 passing yards per game, accumulating 54 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. His contributions on the ground were significant as well, with an average of 73.1 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns, resulting in a remarkable average of 331.3 total yards per game. Under his leadership, South Florida achieved a record of 19-12 (.613) over Golesh’s three-year tenure, including a commendable finish to the recent season at 9-3, marking one of the program’s best performances.

Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Brown played high school football at Rolesville, where he garnered recognition as a top-75 quarterback nationally and a top-30 prospect in North Carolina during the 2022 recruiting cycle.

With his sights set on new opportunities, Byrum Brown is poised to enter the Transfer Portal when it officially opens on January 2nd. His decision marks a significant development for both himself and the South Florida football program as they navigate changes during this offseason. As fans and analysts keep a close eye on the portal, tools like On3’s Transfer Portal wire will provide timely updates on player movements.
