HOUSTON — As Team USA prepares for its showdown against Great Britain in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, significant adjustments have been made to the lineup following an impressive total of 44 runs scored in their previous two games.

In an intriguing shift, Kyle Schwarber, who usually bats leadoff for the Philadelphia Phillies, takes on that role in this game, moving from his spot in the cleanup position from their opener. He will be followed by Alex Bregman, who is eager for more opportunities after expressing frustration in the previous game where he was walked four times and hit by a pitch while batting fifth.

Right fielder Aaron Judge, who showcased his power with a two-run homer in the opener, and left fielder Roman Anthony remain in their respective batting positions at third and seventh. Bryce Harper will move from second to clean-up, aiming to capitalize on Judge’s presence further up in the order.

Starting on the mound is left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal, while catcher Will Smith steps in for Cal Raleigh. Additionally, Gunnar Henderson will play shortstop in place of Bobby Witt Jr., and Ernie Clement will take over at second base, despite Brice Turang’s solid performance in the opener with three hits and four RBIs. Gold Glove winner Pete Crow-Armstrong will bat ninth, substituting for Byron Buxton, who left Friday’s game after getting hit by a pitch but is available as a bench option according to USA manager Mark DeRosa, who confirmed that Buxton is fine following an X-ray.

The changes mark a strategic approach by Team USA as they seek to build on their early success in the tournament, aiming for another dominant performance against Great Britain.
