American football fans in Suva were treated to an exciting Super Bowl watch party, organized by the US Embassy at Damodar Cinemas in Damodar City Centre. The event featured the thrilling 60th Super Bowl, where the Seattle Seahawks triumphed over the New England Patriots with a score of 29-13, held at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco, California.

John Degory, the embassy’s chargé d’Affaires, addressed the enthusiastic crowd, highlighting the event’s purpose of celebrating shared cultural values between the United States and Fiji. The party drew a substantial turnout not just from fans, but also from members of the diplomatic community, emphasizing the international appeal of the event.

Attendees enjoyed the match broadcast live on the big screen along with complimentary pizza and an engaging lucky draw offering prizes such as American footballs. This marked the first Super Bowl watch party hosted by the US Embassy in Suva, part of a broader initiative through a Public Private Partnership between the US Department of State and the National Football League (NFL). This collaboration aims to introduce the sport to new audiences around the world and enhance tourism while fostering cultural engagement.

The embassy also announced its celebration of the “Decade of Sport in America,” commencing in 2024, which will highlight significant global sporting events in the United States. The NFL further emphasizes American cultural values, including integrity, fair play, and mutual respect, seeking to unite fans globally through the passion of sports.

This event not only provided entertainment but also built community connections and encouraged cultural exchange through the love for football, making it a memorable day for all involved.
