The highly anticipated 2026 Unrivaled season officially begins on January 5, bringing with it an expanded roster of teams, increased competition, and a larger prize pool. This Miami-based 3-on-3 league initially captivated audiences in 2025, raking in 3 million viewers during its opening weekend. Unrivaled showcased a thrilling display of skill and athleticism, featuring game-winning shots, remarkable dunks, and an exciting 1-on-1 tournament that highlighted some of the best talent in women’s basketball.

Co-founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, Unrivaled aims to provide players a platform to stay active and refine their skills during the offseason while sharing their talent with dedicated fans. The league has effectively increased the visibility of women’s basketball. “With Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart being the founders, it’s inspiring to support the women who paved the way, and they continue to lead by example,” said Unrivaled rookie and Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers. “The WNBA season isn’t long enough for fans to see us during the offseason, so having this visibility is crucial for our growth.”

Reflecting on the previous season, the Lunar Owls established themselves as a dominant force, finishing with a 13-1 regular-season record and securing the number one seed in the playoffs. However, despite their impressive performance and recognition for Collier as MVP, they faced a heartbreaking loss to Vinyl in the semifinals. Additionally, Collier’s extraordinary skills also saw her win the league’s inaugural 1-on-1 tournament, reinforcing her status as a top-tier player.

On the other hand, Rose BC rebounded from a rocky start to claim their first title, guided by remarkable performances from standout players like Angel Reese and Chelsea Gray. The team ended the season strong, ultimately achieving a triumphant march to victory over Vinyl.

As the 2026 season approaches, the league has made significant advancements. Expanding to eight teams, Unrivaled has introduced new clubs Hive BC and Breeze BC, along with a player development pool that increases player spots to 54. They have also eliminated back-to-back games by adding an extra game day during the weekend, enhancing the competition experience for both players and fans. Moreover, all but two starters from Rose BC return, though replacing the impactful Angel Reese presents challenges as the team navigates the new season.

The 2026 season also anticipates breakout performances from many new players, including Cameron Brink, who returns after an injury, and Kelsey Plum, making her presence known after a slight hiatus. Their experience at the highest levels of the sport suggests they could greatly influence their teams’ success.

With the committed support of fans and the evolving landscape of women’s basketball, the Unrivaled league continues to pave the way for thrilling competition and growth. The upcoming season promises to elevate the excitement surrounding women’s sports further, establishing recognition and opportunities for aspiring athletes.
