Lexington is bracing for significant snowfall as a Winter Weather Warning is in effect from 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, until 10 a.m. on Friday, December 12. This alert comes from an email sent to the university community by Eric N. Monday, the University of Kentucky’s Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration.
The weather forecast indicates another round of snow is anticipated on Saturday, which coincides with plummeting temperatures that could drop below zero by Monday morning across Lexington and much of Northern and Eastern Kentucky. In response to the severe weather conditions, university crews will be on standby to ensure the campus is safe and navigable.
The email reassured that the University of Kentucky’s intention is to maintain operational status for the campus and its adjacent facilities throughout the Winter Weather Warning. Should there be any changes to the university’s operational status, such as a delay or closure, the community will be promptly notified through a UK Alert.
Furthermore, the university is committed to keeping everyone informed about weather-related updates, facility statuses, and operational plans through various channels including email, social media, the UK homepage, UKNow, and uky.edu/alerts.
To assist individuals during this winter weather, campus human resources has provided resources on how to traverse the campus safely, including maps identifying the first sidewalks to be cleared of snow. This proactive approach not only prioritizes safety but also reinforces the university’s dedication to ensuring that all members of the campus community are well-informed and prepared for the upcoming winter conditions.
