Nadi is set to host a major music event as UB40’s eagerly awaited Big Love Tour arrives at Prince Charles Park on January 30. This concert is part of the band’s extensive 12-country world tour and signifies Nadi’s third-largest musical gathering in the past three years, cementing its reputation as a growing hub for international music festivals.
Muni Gopal Reddy, CEO of the Nadi Town Council, confirmed that the concert venue is ready for the event organizers, with preparations for the stage and facilities already in progress. The safety of attendees is a top concern, with police deployed to address any potential issues surrounding the venue. Reddy expressed his confidence in the council’s ability to manage large-scale events, stating, “Each year, we learn and improve on the services for big events like this. We look forward to another successful concert.”
In anticipation of the crowd, open spaces near the park will be designated for parking, and the council is collaborating with the Fiji Roads Authority to ensure safe access for all attendees.
The concert will feature local talent, including Ouvacast and Paradise Roots, with the beloved New Zealand reggae band Katchafire also appearing on the lineup. Ouvacast’s lead singer, Nicky Beddoes, shared her enthusiasm about serving as the opening act, emphasizing the importance of making a lasting impression. She noted the significance of UB40’s return to Fiji after over a decade, reflecting on the inspiration the band has provided to many local artists.
The return of the iconic reggae group promises to create an unforgettable night, celebrating not only the music but also the community spirit that such gatherings ignite. This concert is indicative of a revitalizing music scene in Nadi, heralding a hopeful future for cultural events in the area and further solidifying its place on the global music stage.
