Ty Simpson Earns Dual Semifinalist Nod for Walter Camp and Davey O’Brien Awards

Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has achieved a significant milestone in his college football career by being named a semifinalist for two prestigious awards. On Wednesday, he was identified as one of 20 semifinalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, a title recognizing the most outstanding player in the nation. The finalists for this award will be revealed later this month, with the winner set to be announced during the Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards Show on December 12. Alabama has a rich history with this award, having produced three winners: Jonathan Allen in 2016, Tua Tagovailoa in 2018, and DeVonta Smith in 2020.

In addition to the Walter Camp accolade, Simpson is also among the top 20 signal-callers recognized as semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien Award, which honors the best college quarterback in the United States. The finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award will be announced on November 25, with the winner, too, being revealed at the College Football Awards Show in December. Notably, the Crimson Tide has yet to have a recipient of the Davey O’Brien Award, making Simpson’s nomination particularly noteworthy.

So far in the 2025 season, Ty Simpson has emerged as one of the nation’s most prolific quarterbacks. He has played an essential role in Alabama’s impressive 8-1 record and flawless 6-0 mark in Southeastern Conference play. Simpson’s statistics through his first nine starts are striking; he has completed 198 out of 296 passes with a completion rate of 66.9%, accumulating 2,461 passing yards and throwing for 21 touchdowns. Additionally, he has showcased his versatility by adding 87 rushing yards and two scores on 55 attempts.

Simpson’s performance has placed him among the top quarterbacks in the SEC and Division I football, leading in both passing touchdowns and completions per game. Remarkably, he stands out as one of only two quarterbacks nationally who have thrown for over 20 touchdowns and more than 2,400 yards while maintaining one or fewer interceptions.

This recognition not only highlights Simpson’s individual talent but also reflects the potential for continued success for the Alabama Crimson Tide as they progress through the season.
