Turkey’s KAAN Fifth-Gen Fighter Advances with Domestic Engine on Schedule

Türkiye’s National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler has confirmed that the indigenous KAAN fighter jet and its domestic engine are progressing according to schedule. This update was shared in the Turkish Parliament, highlighting the project’s significant role in bolstering national defense.

Under the guidance of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), production and development efforts for the KAAN are moving forward as planned. Minister Güler mentioned that the concurrent development of a homegrown engine for the aircraft is also on track, marking a crucial step toward achieving technological independence in defense manufacturing.

Previously known as TF-X, the KAAN project is a vital part of Türkiye’s aspirations within the defense industry. The fifth-generation fighter is designed with advanced stealth features, exceptional maneuverability, and sophisticated AI-driven avionics. The aircraft made its maiden flight in February 2024, followed by a successful second flight test in May of the same year.

The timely progress of this program aligns with its anticipated integration into the Turkish Air Force, reinforcing Türkiye’s strategy to enhance its defense capabilities. The KAAN project not only aims to fortify national security but also to position Türkiye competitively within the global aerospace and defense markets. This advancement reflects a commitment to innovation and self-reliance in military technology.
