President Donald Trump addressed concerns about a large bruise on his left hand, attributing it to a minor incident where he bumped it against furniture in Switzerland. While speaking to CNN’s Samantha Waldenberg aboard Air Force One, Trump explained, “I clipped it on the table” and noted that he applied some cream to it for treatment.
Earlier in the day, the White House confirmed that the bruise resulted from Trump hitting his hand on the corner of a signing table during a Board of Peace event in Davos, Switzerland. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt provided details in her statement, clarifying, “At the Board of Peace event today in Davos, President Trump hit his hand on the corner of the signing table, causing it to bruise.”
During his remarks, Trump revealed that his use of aspirin, which he takes in higher doses than typically recommended, makes him more susceptible to bruising. He explained, “I would say, take aspirin if you like your heart, but don’t take aspirin if you don’t want to have a little bruising,” emphasizing the need to manage his health proactively despite being advised that he is in good health.
A White House official released photos taken during the Davos visit, pointing out that images from both Wednesday and Thursday did not show any visible bruising at the start of the signing event. However, about ten minutes into the event, where Trump was seen seated and signing documents, the bruise became evident. This aligns with prior reports about Trump’s health, as he has had visible bruising on his right hand, which had been noted by CNN as predating his return to the White House.
In an interview earlier this month with the Wall Street Journal, Trump stated he takes 325 milligrams of aspirin daily, asserting that it is beneficial for blood thinning. Dr. Sean Barbabella, Trump’s physician, reiterated that this dosage is why the president bruises easily. This dosage exceeds the Mayo Clinic’s recommendations for low-dose aspirin, which generally suggest between 75 to 100 milligrams for cardiovascular protection.
Overall, while Trump’s health has garnered attention recently, particularly regarding his tendency to bruise, he remains confident in his health management choices. This incident demonstrates both his proactive approach to health and the media’s scrutiny surrounding his well-being.
