Treylon Burks Breaks Out for Commanders on Sunday Night Football

The Washington Commanders faced off against the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football in a highly competitive match. Trailing 13-7 as they entered the second half, the Commanders needed a spark to regain the lead. Wide receiver Treylon Burks stepped up to make that happen, catching a 5-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Burks, who was a first-round pick from Ole Miss in the 2022 NFL Draft, scored his inaugural touchdown for the Commanders after transitioning from a challenging three-year stint with the Tennessee Titans. His time in Tennessee was marked by struggles that ultimately led to his release earlier this season. The Commanders, recognizing their need for wide receiver depth, picked him up, and he is beginning to show his potential.

Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury praised Burks’ early contributions, noting, “They’ve made plays when they needed to… you could see with development, the way they work, the professionalism, they got a chance to have a nice role in this league.” This marks a significant turnaround for Burks, who had recorded just four catches for 34 yards all of last season with the Titans, compared to four catches for 72 yards in his first few games with the Commanders.

The touchdown catch was particularly notable as it was Burks’ first since December 4, 2022, and the first he achieved as a member of the Commanders. Following Burks’ touchdown, the Broncos responded with a 1-yard rushing touchdown from running back RJ Harvey, putting the Broncos back in the lead at 20-14 midway through the third quarter.

Fans can tune in to watch the game on NBC or stream it via the Peacock app for the latest developments. The Commanders continue to battle as they look to build momentum throughout the remainder of the season.

As the team navigates its season and Burks finds his footing, there’s optimism surrounding his potential to be a key contributor not just this year, but also in seasons to come. The Commanders’ fan community remains eager for continued improvement and exciting performances as the campaign unfolds.
