Cornerback Trevon Diggs will not take the field for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 18 as the team has decided to waive him. Reports indicate that his current contract includes over $472,000 owed this week, along with three additional years left but no guaranteed money. Should another team place a waiver claim on Diggs, they would assume this contract, which has a scheduled payment of $14.5 million by 2026 and a cap hit exceeding $18.44 million.

If Diggs goes unclaimed, he will enter free agency and will be eligible to sign with a team immediately, rather than waiting until March, allowing him the opportunity to explore new options as soon as the regular season concludes.

Diggs has had a tumultuous season, participating in the first six games before being placed on injured reserve due to a concussion he sustained at home, combined with ongoing recovery from knee issues that affected his availability in the prior two seasons. He managed to return for the last two contests of the season.

This development follows recent news regarding his brother, Stefon Diggs, who is currently facing serious legal issues, including charges of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery while being on the active roster for the New England Patriots. The situation highlights challenges both players are facing as they navigate their respective paths in the NFL.
