Georgia State quarterback TJ Finley is set to enter the NCAA transfer portal, as reported by On3’s Pete Nakos. The 6-foot-6 signal-caller has had a dynamic college career, having previously played for prominent programs such as LSU, Auburn, Texas State, and Western Kentucky.

During his recent stint at Georgia State, Finley saw action in seven games, accumulating 1,244 yards through the air, complemented by six touchdowns but marred by seven interceptions. His team finished with a tough 1-6 record in those outings.

In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Finley reflected on the challenges he has faced over the last two seasons, highlighting the struggles of new fatherhood, injuries, and off-field issues as life tests that football could not prepare him for. Despite these adversities, he affirmed his love for the game and his unwavering desire to compete at the highest level.

He announced, “Due to a season-ending injury sustained in 2024, I am applying for a 7th year and I’ve decided to pursue it fully. I thank God for carrying me through the storm and allowing me to put everything behind me as I move forward to 2026. I’m focused, healthy, and motivated. I look forward to finishing my career at a university that gives me an opportunity to compete, lead and finish strong. The story isn’t over.”

Originally, Finley was slated to join Tulane for the 2025 season, but he entered the transfer portal following a suspension from the program. After some time away from Tulane, he settled at Georgia State.

Finley’s college career began in 2020 with the LSU Tigers, where he played just one season before transferring to Auburn for two years. He had a brief stint at Texas State in 2023 before moving to Western Kentucky. His most productive season came in 2023 when he served as Texas State’s starting quarterback, throwing for 3,439 yards with 24 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.

Throughout his college football journey, Finley has amassed a total of 7,372 career passing yards, with 43 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. If he enters the transfer portal as planned, he will look to join a seventh program, marking a new chapter in his lengthy and eventful collegiate career. Finley’s determination to continue and succeed in football serves as a testament to his resilience and passion for the sport.
