Robert Woods, the former wide receiver for the Houston Texans, has officially announced his retirement from professional football after a distinguished 13-season career in the NFL. In a heartfelt message on his Instagram account, Woods expressed gratitude for his journey in the sport and signed a one-day contract with the Los Angeles Rams, where he spent a significant portion of his career.

Reflecting on his time in football, Woods stated, “After 27 unforgettable years of pouring my heart into this game, and 13 incredible years in the NFL – It’s time for me to step away from playing the sport that has given me everything.” He emphasized that football has always been more than just a game for him, describing it as his passion and lifelong dream. Woods cherished every moment spent on the field, expressing his commitment to leaving a part of himself with each play.

Selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills after an impressive college career at USC, Woods truly flourished during his five seasons with the Rams, where he recorded 367 receptions, 4,626 yards, and 23 touchdowns. Although he did not play in the Rams’ Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, he celebrated as a champion after being part of the team during that successful season.

Following his time with the Rams, Woods had brief stints with the Tennessee Titans and the Houston Texans, where he contributed with 60 catches for 629 yards and one touchdown. He concluded his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, though he did not see game action last season. Throughout his NFL journey, Woods achieved a remarkable 683 receptions for 8,233 yards and 38 touchdowns, starting in 145 of the 171 regular-season games.

As the Texans prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft, where they hold nine picks, Woods’ retirement marks the end of an era for a player who has left an indelible mark on the teams he played for, and it serves as a reminder of the profound impact an athlete can have on their sport and community. His legacy extends beyond the statistics, as he is remembered not only for his athletic talent but also for his dedication and passion for the game.
