Danny Ramirez will not reprise his role in the anticipated third season of HBO’s hit series, The Last of Us. Ramirez, who portrayed Manny Alvarez, a fellow Firefly alongside Kaitlyn Dever, appeared in four episodes during Season 2. According to reports, his departure from the series is due to scheduling conflicts.
The show, co-created and directed by Neil Druckmann, was renewed for a third season even before Season 2 debuted on the streaming platform last April. The finale of Season 2 hinted at an intriguing narrative shift for the upcoming season, promising to explore the story from Abby’s perspective, played by Dever.
Craig Mazin, the series’ co-creator, assured fans in May that viewers could expect to see more of Kaitlyn Dever, Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced, and several other characters who, although currently deceased in the storyline, may have further relevance in the plot.
In a shift behind the scenes, it was revealed last July that Druckmann would reduce his creative involvement in the adaptation, stepping back from writing and directing any episodes for Season 3, though he will remain as co-creator and executive producer.
Mazin has also teased that the new season will address numerous unanswered questions, including the origins of the war depicted in the series, the timeline of events involving the Seraphites, and key character motivations.
While Ramirez steps away from The Last of Us, fans can look forward to seeing him in the superhero film Avengers: Doomsday next year, where he will take on the role of The Falcon, also known as Joaquin Torres. As the series progresses, expectations remain high for what lies ahead in this compelling adaptation of the beloved video game.
