Ted Ginn Jr. has been appointed as the head coach of the Columbus Aviators, as announced by UFL President and CEO Russ Brandon. This announcement comes as the Aviators prepare for their inaugural season in the United Football League, marking an exciting new chapter for both Ginn and the local football community.

In a news release, Ginn expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Aviators, stating, “Today marks a new milestone in my football journey. When I heard that the United Football League was going to have a football team in Columbus, I wanted to be a part of creating a new winning tradition in this city that is such an important part of my life.” He urged football fans across the state to rally behind the team as they embark on this new adventure.

Ginn, who rose to stardom as a player for Ohio State from 2004 to 2006 under coach Jim Tressel, tallied impressive stats including 1,943 receiving yards, 15 touchdowns, and remarkable special teams performances with six punt returns and two kickoff returns for touchdowns. Tressel praised Ginn’s appointment, highlighting his potential as a positive influence on the players and his deep connection to Ohio.

Drafted ninth overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2007 NFL Draft, Ginn’s NFL career saw him play for several teams, including the 49ers, Panthers, Cardinals, Saints, and Bears, where he accumulated 5,742 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns, along with multiple return touchdowns.

Brandon acknowledged Ginn’s embodiment of the values of Ohio football, stating, “A proven winner, Ted combines a winning performance on the field and a deep knowledge of the game with tremendous pride for his home state.” The Columbus Aviators are looking forward to building a strong foundation under Ginn’s leadership, as they aim to make a significant impact on the community and the UFL.

This announcement heralds a hopeful future for the Aviators and the local football scene, with Ginn’s experience and passion promising to invigorate the team and its supporters as they take flight in their inaugural season.
