CINCINNATI — Taste of Belgium, a beloved fixture in Cincinnati’s dining scene, has officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection while assuring patrons that its operations will remain unchanged. Founder Jean-François Flechet emphasized that this move is aimed at preserving the restaurant’s future, stating, “This is not about closing restaurants. It is about keeping them open. Filing for Chapter 11 gives us the protection we need to adapt, remain in business and continue serving our guests.”

The decision to restructure comes amid various challenges still facing the restaurant industry, including the persistent effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, shifts in consumer dining habits, declines in downtown foot traffic, inflation, and escalating delivery expenses. Despite these hurdles, all Taste of Belgium locations will continue to serve customers as they always have.

Flechet encourages the community to continue supporting local establishments, adding, “We’re in the hospitality business. And hospitality is better in person. We encourage guests, especially those who have not been in a while, to come see us, dine with us, and support local restaurants the way they were meant to be experienced.”

Founded in 2007, Taste of Belgium has become an iconic part of Cincinnati’s culinary landscape. The bankruptcy filing comes in stark contrast to a recent uptick in restaurant closures throughout the city, underlining the unique challenges facing the industry today.

The resilience shown by Taste of Belgium highlights the enduring spirit of local businesses and their commitment to their communities during turbulent times.
