Taiwan and Fiji are enhancing their collaboration in disaster response and emergency medical services. Recently, the Taipei Trade Office in Fiji hosted a ceremony to present new emergency medical equipment, generously donated by Taiwan’s National Fire Agency.
Joseph Chow, the representative from Taiwan, emphasized that this donation is part of a broader initiative aimed at bolstering Fiji’s emergency response capabilities. He reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to continue supporting Fiji through training, technical assistance, and vital equipment, reflecting the strengthening partnership between the two nations. “Taiwan is committed to being a reliable and long-term partner for Fiji,” Chow stated, expressing hopes to broaden cooperation in various sectors aimed at creating safer, more resilient communities.
In gratitude for the ongoing support from Taiwan, Puamau Sowane, CEO of the National Fire Authority of Fiji, highlighted how these donated medical supplies will significantly enhance Fiji’s capability to provide urgent care prior to patients arriving at medical facilities. He extended his thanks to Taiwan’s National Fire Agency and other partners for their contributions.
This initiative follows Sowane’s visit to Taiwan earlier in April, where he signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the National Fire Agency, laying the groundwork for sustained collaboration. Additionally, a milestone was achieved with the first group of ten Fijian Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) completing intensive training in Taiwan, equipping them with essential skills to boost Fiji’s emergency response services.
The ongoing partnership between Taiwan and Fiji signals a hopeful future as both nations work together to improve emergency preparedness and resilience against disasters, ultimately aiming to safeguard the health and safety of their communities.
