Suva City Council has officially inaugurated a PET bottle and aluminum can buy-back center in collaboration with Return & Earn Fiji, marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability within the capital. The initiative reflects the council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a clean, green, and resilient city.

Tevita Boseiwaqa, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Suva City Council, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Suva is Fiji’s capital, and our residents, businesses, and visitors expect a clean and well-managed city. The Return & Earn Centre provides a practical solution that encourages responsible waste disposal while empowering communities to play an active role in reducing litter and protecting our environment.”

Dwain Qalovaki, a representative from Return & Earn Fiji, acknowledged Suva’s pivotal role in enhancing beverage container recovery across the nation. He stated, “The launch of this center in the capital city aligns with our strategy to accelerate the collection of beverage containers and that starts with strong partnerships with the country’s thirteen municipal councils.”

The Return and Earn Centre will operate at the Suva City Council’s Compost Facility, located on Lakeba Street in Samabula, every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This initiative promises to bolster community engagement in environmental preservation efforts and contribute positively to the ongoing battle against littering in Fiji.
