Two individuals from Qauia in Lami, Keni Salawai, 42, and Jope Seniloli, 20, have been presented before the Suva Magistrate’s Court, facing charges related to the murder of Police Constable 8012 Peniasi Racagi. The proceedings were overseen by Senior Magistrate Sufia Hamza.

The charges arise from an incident that reportedly took place between February 21 and 22, 2026. Salawai and Seniloli, along with a third accomplice, are accused of aiding and facilitating actions that resulted in the fatal injuries sustained by Constable Racagi.

During the court proceedings, police prosecutor Sergeant Pritika Prasad indicated that initial disclosures pertinent to the case have been made. Given the nature of the allegations as an indictable offense, the case is set to be escalated to the High Court for further deliberation. The defendants have been informed of the option to submit an alibi notice if they wish to incorporate one into their defense strategy.

Both men remain in custody and are scheduled to return to the High Court in Suva on March 13. As the legal process unfolds, the judicial system continues to tackle serious criminal matters while ensuring that the rights of the accused are maintained throughout the proceedings.
